The City of Toronto recently won Gold at the 2020 Municipal Waste Association annual Promotion and Eduction (P&E) Awards. Toronto won Gold for outstanding achievement in the Large Municipality (40,000 plus residents) category for their 2019 Waste Management Guide and Collection schedule calendar.
Judging was based on campaign effectiveness, originality and creativity, and quality of submission. The City of Richmond Hill captured silver, while the City of Hamilton garnered bronze.
The Municipal Waste Association is an industry leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to sharing best practices, providing education, and recognition of excellence within the municipal waste reduction and recycling industry.
John Watson, judge and host of the P&E Awards, remarked, "Our industry learns from the success that everyone shares with each other...it's vital that we can learn from best practices, so we can use our [resources] in a targeted way to increase waste diversion in our respective municipalities.”
The City of Toronto 2019 Waste Management Guide and Collection Schedule calendar was created, and designed by TWG Communications. More than 1.2 million versions of the calendar were provided to every household in Toronto. The calendars were designed to be the City’s most effective reference guide for recycling and garbage ‘do’s and don’ts’ ensuring residents understand what blue bins, green bins and garbage bins are to be used for, helping to reduce the quantity of waste to be sent to landfills.
“Toronto is a very diverse city,” said Donna Backer, TWG Communications Account Manager and project lead, “the calendar had to clearly communicate the city’s waste management goals to a wide variety of people living in single family dwellings and multi residential units.”
The final product was an infographic style layout synthesizing large amounts of detailed content into an easy to read, understand and follow guide for all citizens.
“We have done several projects with the City of Toronto over the years and we are very proud to congratulate them on this Gold Medal win,” added Backer.
